US Import Tariff Rates

Updated 2026-05-13

Current US import duty rates for 89 major trading partners. Rates include reciprocal tariffs, Section 301 (China), Section 232 (steel/aluminum), and FTA preferences. These rates are paid by US importers to CBP — see who pays for tariffs for the mechanics. Duty is assessed against the 10-digit HTS code on your entry summary. For specific country workflows, our guides on importing from Vietnam to the US (10% Section 122 on apparel, footwear, furniture) and imported foods from Mexico (USMCA 0% on avocados, beer, berries) walk through worked examples on real container volumes. For the Asia-Pacific stack, the Taiwan sourcing guide breaks down the 10% Section 122 + 25% Section 232 semiconductor math on a $40,000 PCB container, and the import duty from Russia guide covers the post-2022 Column 2 stack (35-90% on most manufactured goods) plus the 122-277% AD margins on urea.

Understanding the Rate Table

Every row above tells a different story. The reciprocal column shows the flat Section 122 rate that applies to all countries equally right now (10% across the board since February 24, 2026) — see tariffs today for the full current stack. But the real cost of importing depends heavily on the surcharge columns. A shipment of electronics from South Korea might only face the 10% Section 122 rate, while the same product from China gets hit with an additional 25% or more under Section 301 — see the China tariff rate breakdown for the 35% effective math. Steel from Brazil faces a 50% Section 232 surcharge on top of everything else, and the same 50% layer applies to copper imports from Chile, Canada, Mexico, and Peru — FTA preferences don't reach the Section 232 line. The table gives you the building blocks, but you need to stack them correctly for your specific situation.

The trade agreement column is worth paying close attention to. Countries with active FTAs (like Mexico and Canada under USMCA, or South Korea under KORUS) can offer duty-free entry on the MFN base rate for qualifying goods. That does not remove the Section 122 tariff or any surcharges, but it can make a meaningful difference on products with high base duties like textiles, footwear, and processed foods. EU members — Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands — have no FTA at all, so EU imports pay the full 10% Section 122 on top of MFN — see the EU import duty tariff breakdown for the MPF, HMF, and Section 232 stack. India is in the same no-FTA bucket — the India tariff guide has the full 10% + 16.5% MFN math on Tirupur apparel. If you see an FTA listed for your source country, it is worth checking whether your goods meet the rules of origin requirements.

The de minimis column shows the threshold below which individual shipments enter duty-free. For most countries this is $800 per shipment, which matters if you are ordering samples or small quantities. China lost its de minimis exemption in February 2025, meaning even a $10 package from China now requires a formal customs entry with full duties. That change hit e-commerce sellers and direct-to-consumer brands particularly hard.

Product-specific rates often diverge sharply from the country baseline. Chinese furniture tariffs land at 35% effective (10% Section 122 + 25% Section 301), while Vietnamese furniture stays at 10% flat — a 25-point delta that explains why $14B in US furniture imports came from Vietnam in 2025. Pharmaceuticals are a different story: the threatened Trump pharma tariffs of 100% on patented branded drugs from Ireland and Switzerland would be the highest single-product rate in the US trade book, while generics and APIs stay at the 10% Section 122 baseline. Tires sit in their own category — see tire tariffs for the 35% Chinese stack plus AD/CVD that pushes worst-case Chinese producers past 120%, and Thailand now leads US tire imports at $4.5B annually.
