Effective Rate

Greece is a significant source of animal or vegetable fats and oils imports into the United States, with approximately $4B in total bilateral trade.

Since July 1, 2026, imports of animal or vegetable fats and oils from Greece trade under the EU-US deal's 15% all-inclusive ceiling — the MFN base does not stack on top, and products whose MFN rate is already 15% or higher pay MFN only. This succeeded the 10% Section 122 tariff (in effect February 24 through June 30, 2026), which had replaced the IEEPA reciprocal tariff struck down by the Supreme Court on February 20, 2026.

The 15% deal rate is durable: it stems from the EU-US agreement adopted by the Council of the EU on June 25, 2026, not from the 150-day Section 122 authority that expired July 24, 2026 for other countries. In exchange, the EU eliminated its duties on US industrial goods as of July 1, 2026.

Animal or Vegetable Fats and Oils (HTS Chapter 15) carry an average MFN duty rate of 4%, which is absorbed into — not added on top of — the EU deal's 15% all-inclusive ceiling. No additional Section 232 or Section 301 surcharges apply to most products in this category from Greece.

Key products in HTS Chapter 15 imported from Greece include Olive oil, Palm oil, Soybean oil, Sunflower oil, Coconut oil, and Lard and tallow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current tariff rate on animal or vegetable fats and oils from Greece?
As of July 2026, animal or vegetable fats and oils from Greece fall under the EU-US trade deal's 15% all-inclusive ceiling (effective July 1, 2026). Nothing stacks on top — goods with MFN rates below 15% pay 15% total, and goods with MFN rates of 15% or higher pay MFN only. The effective rate is about 15% on the most-affected products.
Will the tariff on animal or vegetable fats and oils from Greece change?
Unlike the Section 301 forced-labor tariff on non-EU countries (which replaced the flat 10% Section 122 rate on July 24, 2026), the EU deal's 15% ceiling has no built-in expiration. The next scheduled change is September 1, 2026, when EU aircraft and aircraft parts, generic pharmaceuticals plus their ingredients and precursors, and unavailable natural resources revert to MFN-only rates.
How did 2026's tariff changes affect animal or vegetable fats and oils imports from Greece?
Three regimes in one year: the Supreme Court struck down IEEPA reciprocal tariffs on February 20, 2026; a 10% Section 122 tariff bridged February 24 through June 30; and the EU-US trade deal's 15% all-inclusive ceiling took effect July 1, 2026. In exchange, the EU eliminated its duties on US industrial goods the same day.
