How we verify rates

Reviewed by the TariffsTool data team. This page describes the process already used for the published tables. Rate tables last verified October 9, 2026. Newest effective change-log event October 18, 2026.

Curated static snapshot compiled from the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule, USTR Section 301 notices, and presidential proclamations. Not a live USITC feed. Rate tables last verified 2026-10-09. The change log’s newest effective event is 2026-10-18; that date does not by itself revise these tables. Verify binding rates at https://hts.usitc.gov/.

Sources

  • USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule, including HTS 2026 Rev. 21 (release 2026HTSRev21), which the October 18, 2026 Column 1 corrections in the change log were read against. hts.usitc.gov.
  • Federal Register documents already stored in the citation table (document number, citation, URL, and the quoted sentence).
  • USTR Section 301 notices and presidential proclamations named in the country profiles and the change log.
  • CBP CSMS numbers only when a change-log entry already cites one (for example CSMS #70054007 on the patented-pharmaceutical implementation note).

What gets published

  1. The data team compares a USITC or Federal Register difference with the published table.
  2. The ingest pipeline can list a proposal. It does not replace the calculator rates by itself.
  3. An accepted correction is copied into the rate tables or the change log, with the date of that verification.
  4. The page date is the newest verification that touches that page. It is not moved forward on days when nothing in that page's data changed.

51 countries have a full calculator profile. Binding classification and duty still belong to a licensed customs broker or hts.usitc.gov.

Citations on a result

Each duty layer looks up the citation table by program and HTS code. When a quote is on file, the result shows the Federal Register citation. When the table has no quote for that program and code, the field stays pending. A pending citation is not a claim that no notice exists. It means this snapshot does not yet store one. Layers the rate checks still expect to be pending — including Column 1 (MFN) on the October 18 heading corrections, and Section 232 steel on heading 7208 — stay pending even if a related notice sits under a different program key.
