Car Import Duty Calculator

Passenger-car duty on this page is HTS 8703 from the same vehicle engine as the tariff calculator. The widget below opens on the automobiles category, which is the covered-parts result, not a second rate table. The heading page is HTS 8703. Light trucks are HTS 8704.

Add freight and fees (estimated landed cost)

Optional. Freight, insurance, and other fees are your estimates โ€” not a quote. MPF and HMF below are formula estimates from published CBP rates, not a guarantee.

HTS 8703, except 8703.21

A $30,000 Japanese passenger vehicle is 15% in this engine, $4,500.00 of duty. Formal MPF on that value is $103.92 (0.3464%, inside the FY2026 floor of $33.58 and ceiling of $651.5). 8703.21 is outside note 33(b) and is not this table. Whether NHTSA and EPA will release the vehicle is a separate question from the duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the US tariff on a passenger car?
HTS 8703, except 8703.21, is not one rate. In this site's vehicle engine Japan, Korea, and Germany are 15% ordinary duty when Column 1 is under 15%. The UK in-quota result is 10% under heading 9903.94.31. Mexico, China, and Australia are on the other passenger-vehicle treatment. Canada is Section 338, not the auto Section 232 rate. The table on this page is that engine.
What is the current tariff on Japanese cars?
Japanese passenger vehicles in note 33(b) are 15% in this calculator (Column 1 2.5% plus the Section 232 amount that brings the total to 15%). On a $30,000 customs value that is $4,500 of duty before MPF. Light trucks are a different heading.
Does this include the 25-year import rule or the gas guzzler tax?
No. NHTSA and EPA decide whether a vehicle not originally built to US standards can be released. The gas guzzler tax is a separate tax on low fuel economy. Neither one is a line in this duty engine. Duty is only the HTS result in the tables.
Does the UK 10% car rate apply without a limit?
The engine returns the in-quota UK result under heading 9903.94.31. The quota is 100,000 passenger vehicles a year from January 1, 2026. This calculator does not track how much of that quota is left. UK light trucks are not in that note.
