Reconciliation

Reconciliation is a CBP/ACE program that lets an importer file an entry with the best available data and then correct specific elements — such as value, classification, or trade-agreement eligibility — later, once the final figures are known, without penalty. It is commonly used when the final price (and thus dutiable value) isn't fixed at import, or when FTA qualification is confirmed after the fact. Example: an importer flags value for reconciliation, then submits the true transfer price months later and pays or reclaims the difference. It matters because it is a formal path to fix estimated entry data — and to recover duty overpaid on an initial estimate.
