Can a regular consumer get a tariff refund?
Sometimes. If you paid an import charge, duty, or courier brokerage fee on a purchase during a period when the underlying tariff was later ruled unlawful, that money may be recoverable. Why are tariff refunds happening in 2026?
In February 2026 the Supreme Court struck down the IEEPA tariffs, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) began issuing refunds of those duties through its CAPE program. That opened the door for many importers — and in some cases consumers who bore the cost — to recover what they paid.
I got a surprise 'import fee' from UPS, FedEx, or DHL. Is that refundable?
Possibly. Couriers often charge duties plus a brokerage fee at delivery. If part of that was an unlawful tariff, it may be recoverable, though courier brokerage fees themselves usually are not. Keep your receipts and delivery invoices — they're the proof you'll need.
